PCI Express 3.0? Already?

First brought by extremetech and reported by Engadget, rumors of PCI Express 3.0 have surfaced touting data transfer speeds of 8.0 gigatransfers (1 billion transfers) per second, just shy of doubling speeds from PCI Express 2.0 (5.0 gigatransfers per second). Good news is that the physical slot will remain the same but the voltage required for the new cards will be increased.
So what is the big deal if this won’t come until end of 2009? Absolutely nothing. It is just one progressive step towards doubling speeds within 2 years (see Moore’s Law).
