Vista Primed For New Adverts
PCs — By corey on July 8, 2008 5:18 pmGizmodo informs us that Microsoft is prepped to launch a $300 million advertising campaign for Windows Vista. Their goal is to combat the popular Mac commercials that continuously beat the idea into our heads that Vista is one craptacular piece of software. Microsoft’s VP of Windows Consumer Products had this to say about the new ad campaign:
We know our story is very different from what our competitors want us to think. Today we are drawing a line and are going to start telling the real story. The quiet majority of million and millions of Windows Vista users out there are going to have a great experience. The message is ‘Move to Vista. The time of worry is over.’
I think it’s great to see MS get a pair of brass ones and start really pushing their product through the PR pipeline. Still, I can’t help but worry when I’m told there was a “time of worry” in the first place. I have friends and coworkers alike who use Vista and enjoy the experience, but until the need arises, you’ll continue to find me on my XP SP2 machines. But who knows? Maybe these latest ads will manage to shake me loose of my reservations. It’d have taken them long enough.
