Geeks Are Given A Reason To Like The Sun
Apple, Cell Phones — By corey on August 5, 2008 at 7:17 pmI typically hate the sun. I’m pale, maybe a bit pasty (okay, plenty pasty), and all lights within 10 feet of my desk at the office are turned off. But if I had an iPhone, I’d start looking at the sun in a new light (har har).
The environmentally-conscious tech source EcoGeek has reported on an upcoming iPhone case that sports a solar panel, allowing you to charge up your iPhone for free. The panel soaks up the sun and stores it in a 1500 mAh battery. A full charge for your iPhone requires 10 hours of sun-juice soakup, but only 3 hours to store up enough for a charge that will get your iPhone on and running. When you are ready to charge, just plug ‘er in. Was it cloudy outside? Awesome, because I don’t like the sun. And besides, it has a mini-USB as backup, so you’re covered.
Have you not had the chance to upgrade your iPhone to the iPhone 3G? Don’t sweat it! This case will work with all the iPhones, allowing you to spend your time sitting in the park, charging your old iPhone, dreaming about the 3G and what it’d be like if Steve Jobs came to your birthday party.
The inexpensive ($54) solar powered case is being produced by Mobile Fun, and is slated for release in mid-August. If I were you, I’d wait for some product testing to see how it holds up. But if the figures we’ve been given hold up, then this is going to be a must-have add-on that’ll put all of your Mac-attack friends to shame.
