CES 2009 Update

Rumors, Tech — By Dave on January 8, 2009 at 10:00 pm

Although I now live in Las Vegas, sadly, I do not have the connections (or money) to get into this weeks big event – the CES convention. Even more sadly, I don’t have the connections (or money) to get into the far more exciting AVN convention (100% NSFW). But what I do have is a great web connection and the ability to bring you up to speed on some of the biggest news out of CES 2009. For your AVN News, well, let’s face it – there’s plenty of websites out there that will give you all the pron you can handle…

  • Ford seems to be the first of the major car companies to realize that A) Americans love their gadgets and B) Playing with gadgets while driving can be very dangerous (even if it’s fun to update your Facebook while steering with your knees)
  • Yikes… 40,000RPM 240GB SSD hard drives for under $500? Get ready for the next wave of laptops and netbooks.
  • I’ll admit – I thought Palm folded a couple years ago. But it seems like they were just playing dead, waiting for the right moment to announce a crazy new smartphone, the Pre. Yeah, everybody else thinks the name sucks too. Gizmodo gives us the full preview.
  • There’s a handful of new home gadgets getting some play, this one appeals to me since I like having multiple gadgets combined on one plug. It’s an internet radio / AM/FM radio / Alarm clock / Home iPod System. For under $200, it seems like something I’ll probably be buying in the coming months.
  • This is one of those “I’ll believe it when I see it”, but at the rate that memory is getting cheaper and more available, I’ll likely see it sometime in the next two years.
