Light Graffiti Part 3 – The Proposal
Announcements, Digital Cameras, How To..., Randomness — By kurteng on February 23, 2009 9:10 amIf you haven’t read up on Light Graffiti, please do so now starting with part 1 and part 2. Otherwise, if you have been following me through Facebook (which I absolutely hate…) or Twitter, you might have found out that I proposed to my girlfriend of 4+ years and without a doubt, she said yes! But how did I do it? More after the bump!

If you haven’t guessed by now, I used light graffiti. But it wasn’t easy at all. It took me a couple of hours over a couple of days to finally get it somewhat readable!
First, the camera. I told my girlfriend (now fiancee) that I would eventually get her a digital SLR camera for her trip to Peru later this year. So as a result, I told her she should be expecting 1 gift for Valentine’s Day and her birthday, which was this past weekend. She had an inkling that it was her camera but still wasn’t 100% convinced (but it was).
So before going out to dinner on her birthday night, she was getting ready and I told her to have a seat on the couch, right over there… She was putting up a fight because she didn’t quite like what she was wearing and was having some issues with her hair and makeup. So she had a little fit but I was laughing hysterically on the inside. So I gave her a card, and then her gift, which she immediately knew it was a camera. She told me to return it (she isn’t the type to really accept big gifts) but I told her it was too late and that I had already taken pictures for her. She started to go through the pictures, the first one being a heart:

Picture 1: The Heart
I got the response, “Is that a heart?” This coming from her after making fun of my light graffiti the night before (ironic?).
She continued to scroll through the pictures and her jaw dropped by the time she got to “will.” The rest you should know…
But there are a few things you should know about taking the pictures…
- The reason it took so long to finish, was because of the order in which the pictures appeared as you turn on the camera. The last picture taken shows up first when you review the photos. So I had to redo the order starting with her name and ending with the heart.
- The camera was brand new and not only was it a dSLR, but I needed to learn how to use it before taking pictures of light graffiti. As a result, I’ll have a review in the upcoming week.
So being a huge geek, I went the way of the nerd in my proposal, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
