Replacing Your Windows Raises Equity, But Expensive

With Windows 7 out in the wild right now for all to test and enjoy, there’s a steady stream of good things to say for Microsoft’s attempt to help people forget about Vista. Really, I’ve found it strange how evenly distributed the positive reviews have been. Not being used to hearing nice things about Windows from so many sources, I was almost relieved back into a state of normalcy when word came that Windows 7 may shoot itself in the foot by overpricing itself.

As computer manufacturer Dell prepares to include Windows 7 in future models, their director of product management, Darrel Ward, hinted to the expected retail value of the new operating system. He cautioned that it would cost more than Vista or XP, and as such could hinder sales of what would otherwise be an excellent product. I’m inclined to agree with this mind-numbingly obvious observation, as Vista and XP both cost too much to begin with, and the thought of spending MORE than that seems a bit silly.

Who knows, maybe Microsoft is banking that you’ll shell out the extra bucks to rid yourself of Vista. Here’s to hoping that M$ drops the price before making announcing anything official. And until then, be sure to get your copy of Windows 7 while it’s still free to use!
