Apple Gets Rid of Google Maps for Their Own Map Company

You heard it right!  Apple bought Placebase which is a map company but has now been replaced by PushPin.  If anything, Apple will use this new map aquisition to move the iPhone into a new mapping direction outside of Google.  Google already uses their map system for the “Maps” application on the iPhone and Touch, but with their push for “Latitude,” Apple has suggested this app to be a web-based application rather than a hard coded app.

Big deal right?  What is Apple’s plan with this new map company and PushPin?  How can they revolutionize the way they map the world?  Google has already done a great job with street views, traffic and directions, what else is there left to do?

Well, I think there must be some struggle between these 2 companies, especially after Apple let go of Eric Schmidt, who was on the board of directors at Apple (but is also Google’s CEO).  Now with the purchase of PlaceBase, who knows what will be next.  If Apple gets rid of Google Maps, will they get rid of GMail, the life blood of Google other than that other thing they do… Or how about any other Google products?  Not cool…
