I woke up at my usual time of 4:45am and checked my 10+ emails over the night starting from 10pm. Twitter, Facebook… Google Wave?! Awesome! I woke up excited and ran to the computer.

I made my account and that was about it… I had to shower and make my breakfast before heading out.

Later that day, I sent out a couple of tweets about networking on Wave. I have a few contacts already but from what I gather, this Wave is a lot different from the original one I had imagined. I thought Wave would be a stand-alone web application that can be integrated on other hosts and servers. One that could be put into blogs using APIs and then run on our own servers. But after diving into Wave, it feels a lot more “corporate.”

I use the term “corporate” loosely. Working in big pharma, we are entirely corporate, using programs like SharePoint and Net Meeting. Well, Wave reminded me of these 2 programs only for the “public” rather than an internal network. With SharePoint and Net Meeting, you can type/draw/present in real time and share documents, update blogs or other news. Same with Wave. It is an easy way to share information with people (that you choose) and to get feedback that everyone else can see. No more teleconferences, just Wave.

But there is 1 big problem. Wave is in beta right now and invites are limited. Which means your contacts list is fairly small unless you try and reach out there and network. Because of this problem, I can’t fully utilize this program and need to wait until more of my friends are invited. OH! And I only get 8 invites? And those invites aren’t really invites but are nominations instead? And my friends won’t get them right away? Nice…

If you would like to add me to your network on Wave: kurteng [AT] gmail [DOT] com

If you weren’t one of the lucky ones who got their hands on a copy of Windows 7 beta last month, you might not be aware that it’s actually a decent Operating System. As Dave mentioned earlier today, there was somewhat of a Freudian slip this week by a PC manufacturer, detailing the ship date for Windows 7 to be this Fall. Now there’s some more good news: There will be new visual changes to the final release of 7 that were not seen in the beta version.

Engadget reports that over 2,000 bug fixes will be implemented thanks to the millions of downloaders of the Windows 7 Beta build last month. At one point, they even were receiving one bug report every 15 seconds for a week straight! Now that’s some helpful users! Truth be told, I’ve been using Windows 7 on and off since the beginning of the year.

I actually haven’t really seen a bug that was game-ending for me, and can’t think of anything on the top of my head that didn’t function right. Media Center works amazingly with my Xbox, libraries are REALLY functional and the Taskbar is awesome. I can’t wait until programs are made for 7 so the Aero Peak (for Firefox tabs) and Jumplists (any program) can be optimized for programs other than Microsoft’s. So no, I didn’t help.. but I did enjoy the OS!

Also, Lifehacker has a sneak peak of some of the updates. For instance, that the ever-friendly ALT-Tab option in the final release will have the Aero Peak ability. Keystroke-mongrels like myself will love this feature, as its so much easier than switching off to your mouse to see a page you’re referencing or what have you.

There are all kinds of behind the scenses updates as well as some other visual ones that will see, so follow the link to read more!
