I don’t care how rich you are, what program for a phone is really worth $1000?

Let me list some programs that are around $1000:

Photoshop CS3 (graphic design, web design, movie editing): $975.99

Final Cut Studio 2 (Mac movie editing): $1299

TurboCAD (graphic design): $973.99

What do all these programs have in common? They are geared towards high end users who do a lot of graphic design work. What does this iPhone program do? Nothing!

How can a program called “I Am Rich” be of any use to anyone other than those who have enough money to find out. Well, it has been confirmed by Gizmodo that at least 8 people were curious (or stupid) enough to buy this program. And to make matters worse, they won’t be getting refunds even though they are unsatisfied customers who claim they didn’t know what they were getting into.

VentureBeat has a picture of the great program which allows you save the cool grand. VentureBeat also wonders how a program so useless, could be approved by Apple… oh that’s because Apple gets a cut from the programs that developers put up in the new Apple iPhone Apps Store! What’s the pay out? AlleyInsider lists the profits for the useless program developer at $5880 net revenue with Apple getting $2520 of the $7999.92 total gross. Now, I’m no businessman, but if I were Apple, why would you pull this program off the store? It isn’t the programmer’s fault that the program was useless, but rather the consumer’s fault for not looking at what they were getting. Not to mention they agreed to purchase the program abiding by the rules of Apple.

What say you? Do you think Apple should refund these customers their money? Or was it just a bad decision on the consumers’ part?
